Tips for protecting yourself

Opt out - Get your name out of circulation for pre-screened credit offers by contacting the credit bureaus at 1-888-567-8688 or www.optoutprescreen.com.

Check your credit report for free at www.annualcreditreport.com or call 1-877-322-8228.

Use a cross-cut shredder to dispose of sensitive paperwork. Never throw credit card offers, statements or other documents with personal identification information in your trash.

Do not carry your Social Security card on you.

Beware of phishing calls and emails. Never share personal information with someone over email or phone unless you are 100% sure it is the person or company it's claiming to be. Also keep in mind that email is not secure so be wary of the info you share via email.
